Yes! You can access our ten minute demo here.
1. Go to your Profile page (also accessible by clicking your own name in the top right hand corner of the home screen)
2. Select 'Organisation Members'
3. Select 'Add Members'
4. Enter the email address and role for each colleague you would like to add, and press 'Submit'
5. Your colleagues will automatically receive an email to complete their sign-up
We recommend that you let your colleagues know about your BecomingX Education before you add them. We've provided an email template to help you in Strategy & Tools. Note that you can have a maximum of three administrators and one Ambassador.
There is a walkthrough video of this process here.
If you are the 'first' or currently an Admin:
If you redeemed a voucher for your school's subscription or you made the payment, you will have automatically become an Admin. If you need to change this (for example to the PHSE Lead):
1. Go to your Profile page (also accessible by clicking your own name in the top right hand corner of the home screen)
2. Select 'Organisation Members'
3. Select 'Add Members'
4. Enter the email address for the colleague you would like to add as an Administrator
5. Set their role to "Admin"
6. Press "Submit"
They will automatically receive an email to complete their registration. As long as your school has another Admin set, you can change your own membership to "User' if you would prefer. A school can have up to 3 Admins.
If you are a User and your Admin is no longer at your school:
Please contact us at support@becomingx.com so we can manually upgrade you, letting us know who has left.
You can find the names of your Adminstrator(s) listed on the Surveys page, in the top left of the Control Panel.
BecomingX Education Ambassadors play a leading role in supporting personal development in their school. They support their colleagues to deliver the BecomingX Education programme, represent their colleagues’ feedback, and are the primary point of contact with the BecomingX Education team. With access to additional support, professional development opportunities and a community of other Ambassadors, they will play a key role in ensuring their students reach their potential. Each school is able to nominate one Ambassador.
In your organisation members list (under settings) you will see a list of users for your school. When an Admin adds a user you will see a tick appear next to their name once they have completed their sign-up (i.e. they have opened their verification email, clicked through to verify, and set their password).
If a user doesn't appear to have completed, the Admin can ask them to check their email (including junk folder). If they cannot find it, the Admin can use the 'resend' button to generate a fresh message. The button will only appear next to users who have yet to complete their signup.
A warning triangle next to the user's name indicates that they are on a different domain from your school (e.g. a temporary or supply teacher). Their access will expire after thirty days.
If you are an Admin or an Ambassador and have added a user, but they don't have a log-in, make sure they have completed their sign-up by responding to the verification email they will have received. Once they click through on the verification email, they will be taken to a page where they can set their own password. They can then log-in using the email address you entered when you added them, and the password they have set.
If they can't find the verification email, you can re-send it from your organisation members list. The 'resend' button will appear next to users who you have added who have not completed their sign-up.
You can only add a colleague onto your Subscription if you have a School Lite (free) or School Premium subscription and are an Administrator.
This video walks you through the process.
To add a colleague:
1) Access your Profile (click on your name in the top right hand corner of your screen, next to the 'Log out' button)
2) Select "Organisation Members"
3) Click "Add Members"
4) Enter their email address and select their role (To add multiple email addresses, enter them on separate lines without punctuation at the end of their address)
5) Press "Submit"
You will receive a confirmation message on your screen that the addresses have been submitted successfully. The new user will receive an email from us asking them to verify their email and set their own password - please alert them to check their junk mail if they cannot find it! If you have any problems contact us
In the rare circumstance that your school already had three Administrators in your School Lite Subscription, and you weren't one of them but you redeemed your School Premium voucher, the existing Administrators will remain as Administrators. As there is a maximum of three, you will have been added as a User. Any of the Administrators can change this in the Organisation Settings. To find the names of your existing Administrators, look in the top left of the Control Panel on the Surveys page.
If you are not seeing the content you expect, the most likely situation is that your subscription has expired and you have been downgraded to our 'free' version, School Lite.
Contact your school administrator to check on the status of your account. If you are not sure who that person is, their name will be visible on the Survey page in the Control Panel.
If you are the School Administrator, you can renew your subscription through your account settings if you wish to pay by credit card or contact us to arrange a purchase order BACS invoice.
Your subscription type is visible in your Profile, under "Subscription". Your Profile can also be accessed by clicking on your name in the top right hand corner of your screen.
You can upgrade your subscription to Premium at any time from the Subscription screen in your Profile.
If you have received a voucher code for Premium, please use the link you will have received in your email, or contact us if you have any problems via email or chat.
To cancel please contact us at support@becomingx.com. Please note that as per our Terms and Conditions we do not offer partial refunds.
We have taken a relentless approach to content design, ensuring that each detail is supported by research and what we know works in practice. Every step has been supported by an advisory board, made up of teachers, headteachers, neuroscientists, psychologists, students, and business and civil society professionals. We began by researching what the evidence says, about both how to teach these topics, as well as what the content should include. The structure of the lessons has been designed to support what we know about the science of learning, and it has been tested with teachers and students, so we know that it works. We worked with students and teachers to understand their specific needs before we even started the design process, as well as throughout the drafting and reviewing timeline. Once a specific lesson's content was researched, designed and reviewed internally and externally, it was again tested with students and teachers, with their feedback included in final designs, to ensure that we are supporting teachers to deliver a truly world-class learning experience.
We have two key sources of research:
1) We interview the world's highest performers on what it takes to succeed. To date, we have transcribed and analysed over 1m words to synthesise their insights
2) We undertake considerable secondary research to benefit from the latest science and psychology (see 'Science of success' for an insight into our sources)
No. None of our lessons have any prerequisites.
No. We have designed this programme so that every lesson is completely independent of one another and can be delivered in isolation (although we recommend everyone does the introductory lesson to understand the full context). This gives institutions the complete freedom to pick and choose which lessons they want to deliver, whenever they like.
While our lessons are designed for specific age/year groups, they can of course be taught to younger or older audiences by adapting the language and sophistication of discussion. While teachers have visibility of the target age group for our content, we do not include this on materials visible to students, to give staff this flexibility.
Yes. Our content is designed to be delivered by teachers who do not have deep expertise in the topics. Our lessons are fully supported by a lesson plan and further reading should a teacher wish to learn more.
No. Like most companies who take huge pride in their work, we like to retain full control over our content. If teachers wish to share other content, ideas or slides, they can of course do this simply by switching between our lesson and their own powerpoint slides or an external website etc.
For those schools who have established character development/PHSE programmes in place, we recognise that you may not want to follow our lesson structure. We have therefore provided a collection of stand-alone activities and clips which you can use to supplement any of your own lessons.
No. Our lessons play natively in any web browser but are not designed to be downloadable (we don't think they need to be). Each user can create a 'My List' of lessons they plan to teach, which enables selected lessons to be reached in just three clicks on BecomingX.com.
No. Usage of our content is dependent on being an active member of BecomingX Education and the benefits cannot be shared.
Yes. All of our lessons are designed to be as accessible as possible. We use minimal text and a large font size. All films have closed captions options for any students with a hearing impairment.
Our curriculum and teaching approach covers the majority of the Ofsted and UK Government requirements for personal development. For a mapping, click here.
Specifically for Ofsted, we provide a clear way for schools to demonstrate their support for students' 'Personal development', which is one of Ofsted's key requirements. Our programme meets all 'Personal development' criteria, including: providing a curriculum which extends beyond the academic, technical and vocational; supporting the development of character - including resilience, confidence and mental health; preparing students for future success in every lesson; equipping students to be responsible, respectful and active citizens by focusing on how they can contribute to society; developing their understanding of their values and the values of others; appreciating the power of diversity; and respecting and celebrating what we have in common.
For the UK Government's requirements, we support schools to put in place the 'Character Education: Framework Guidance' set by the Department for Education. This includes the Six Character Benchmarks, which our lessons and survey allow schools to clearly evidence answers to. This guidance also defines four aspects of character, all of which we cover: remaining motivated by long-term goals and seeing effort paying off, developing positive values, social confidence and communication skills, and the importance of long-term commitments and relationships. We cover 80% of the statutory 'Relationships education, relationships and sex education (RSE) and health education' curriculum requirements. The reason we cover 80% and not 100% of the curriculum is because we don't directly cover specific topics, including: risks with social media; sex education, the law and puberty; work experience and employer contacts; specific issues such as homophobia; types of families and parenting; drugs, alcohol and tobacco; financial choices; personal hygiene: germs, dental health, self-examination, immunisation. However, the principles of our programme equip students to make healthy, responsible and informed decisions, which feeds into and supports their development across all of these topics.
From a recommended approach perspective, we cover 97% (31/32) of the approaches. The exception being 'working with parents and carers' (not possible as a digital provider), but we encourage schools to do this as part of a holistic approach to personal development.
We cover 80% (32/40) of all of the content recommended by the UK PSHE Association and the Department of Education. Areas we don't cover are:
- Risks with online, mobile technology and social media
- Sex education, puberty and the law
- Work experience and employer contacts
- Specific issues such as everyday sexism, misogyny, homophobia, gender stereotypes
- Families: types of relationships and parenting
- Drugs, alcohol and tobacco
- Financial choices
- Personal hygiene: germs, dental health, self-examination, immunisation
Yes! We have many more films on the way, and they will be released regularly on both our main website and in the Cinema.
We recommend that students complete the BecomingX survey online at the beginning and/or end of each year (or whenever is convenient for the institution). The assessment tools use quantitative and qualitative assessment, so you will have clear data in the reports on how students' views and self assessed abilities have changed over time.
The survey does not ask students to provide a name or contact details. Only month and year of birth (not day of birth), ethnicity and gender are asked.
In addition, line item data will not be provided to your institution. Results are aggregated, so there is minimal risk of any data being personally identifiable.
No. We have a set suite of questions determined by BecomingX and our advisory board. These are consistent across all surveys to ensure data comparability over time and to enable progress reports and benchmarks regionally, nationally and internationally.
Not yet… but soon.
Yes. You can run as many surveys as you would like. We would typically recommend conducting a survey either annually, or at the start and end of each academic year. For statistical purposes, BecomingX will also use the latest set of data for any one year (e.g. if two surveys are done in the same year, the 'final' results historically will be the last survey completed in a year).
No. To ensure anonymity of data and responses, we don't provide line item data. However, if you would like to undertake even more data analysis than is provided in the online and PDF reports, please get in touch. Depending on your requirements, we may be able to facilitate this (potentially at an extra cost), although we will not provide anything that could undermine anonymity. Over time, our reporting and analysis tools will be continually developed.
Surveys are only accessible if you have a School Lite or School Premium subscription, and are an Administrator.
You can upgrade from Educator Lite to School Lite here (note you will become an Admin for your school when you upgrade, but you will be able to add other Admins). School Premium is currently available to those who have been gifted a redemption code, and will be available for purchase by all UK secondary schools shortly.
If you are already in a School with a Lite or Premium subscription, you can ask your current Admin to upgrade you to Admin status to be able to administer a survey. The name of your Admin is visible on the Survey page.
Yes. We can deliver a variety of different workshops and sessions in person. Our team all have incredible stories to tell - of interviewing the world's most inspiring people, racing to the north pole and running across deserts, alongside high flying careers in global companies and NGOs. We deliver both pre-planned sessions and custom sessions, so please get in touch if this of interest.
We'd love to get Bear into as many schools as possible, although sadly we can't honour the vast majority of requests due to his busy filming schedule and charity commitments. However, our team are all exceptional and have incredible stories to share, so you will be in great hands (and you might just hear a special message from Bear anyway).
All of our staff that work with students have enhanced DBS checks in place. We have robust safeguarding processes in place and treat the safety and wellbeing of children with the utmost concern. See our safeguarding policy here.
Partially. We have reviewed every venue that appears on our site, although we can take no responsibility for the experience and services provided by other companies. In our review and selection, we do as much due diligence as possible through websites, but encourage each school/college to fully review each venue before committing to a booking.
Yes. These trips are publicly available, although our members get a 10% discount on the price per student.
Yes. One teacher will go for free for every 8 students who take part (excluding flights).
We have negotiated a number of exclusive rewards with commercial organisations to provide rewards to both institutions and staff members. In the 'Benefits' section of our site, you will find a number of defined rewards, where you will be able to:
1) Reveal the discount code to use on retailer's websites
or
2) Click through to a custom BecomingX page on the partner website via the link provided
Please note Rewards are currently only available within the UK.
Yes - we are continually evolving rewards. We will primarily be adding rewards, but partners may change offers with minimal notice and we may need to remove them from our site.
No. Rewards are exclusively for our subscribers and can not be shared under any circumstances. We periodically check with our partners to ensure usage is in line with our terms and conditions.
At this stage rewards are only for staff members and not for use by students. (Watch this space though...)
BecomingX Education can be used on any internet-enabled device, on any modern browser. Lessons are designed for large screens/projectors in a 16:9 format, but can also be viewed on phones and tablets.
Some lesson activities require handouts to be printed in advance.
Yes. You will need an active internet connection to play lessons. All slides 'pre-load' on launch so should the unlikely situation happen and you lose your internet connection during a lesson, you can still play the majority of the lesson (only the videos will need a live connection).
You can. You can even use Airplay (or similar) to 'project' to a big screen.
